Munro Tramway Historical Group Interactive screening of video on the Munro sawmill and tramway.
In 1996 an historical video entitled ‘Munro’s Perseverance (Palmtree) Sawmill and Tramway’ was released by Greg Shum. The video (still available on DVD) runs for 84 minutes. It includes interviews with several people who have since passed away - Duncan Munro’s grandson Clive, along with long-term residents of the district.
The video covers the mill site and operations at Palmtree, the tramway route from Hampton to the mill site and thence through Ravensbourne to Deongwar. Greg was able to access several photographs that we have still to rediscover. He also filmed locations that have already changed considerably since 1996.
Our plan is to have someone poised with their finger on the pause button so that particular scenes and comments made by Greg and the people he interviewed can be discussed. For instance the locations of the scenes in some of the photographs have yet to be agreed upon by MTHG members.
We also hope to persuade people who possess artefacts from the district dating from the early 20th century to bring them to the meeting.
