The Bunyas directions

Crows Nest

Fuel up at Crows Nest Fuel Supplies.

Head north on the New England Hwy (A3) towards Cooyar.

Turn left to Haden.

3 km single width bitumen.


22 km

Haden store ahead. Park with toilets.

Turn right to Bumya Mountains. Up the hill to Reinke Rd and follow the Haden Peranga Rd


Good lookout on the right. Good sweepers, some patching on road. 11 km single width bitumen.

Left towards Oakey, south to Kulpi

S bends through Kulpi. Pioneer Hotel on left.

Continue. Turn right to the Bunyas.

Continue to crossroads and turn left towards Jondaryan, travel 400m to Alex Campbell Park, Brymaroo.

Good surface, Fast run. Part of this road was a wartime airstrip


36 km

At Campbell Park: Canberra Bomber, toilets.

Return NW, continue though the cross roads on the Pechey Maclagan Rd to Quinalow.

Small section single bitumen. Biker-friendly Quinalow pub.

Continue north to Maclagan.


17 km

Time for smokoh. Maclagan Convenience Store is biker friendly (Paul and Theresa 07 4692 1153). Open Sat 7:30 -3 pm, Sun 8 – 2 pm. Fuel, pies, coffee. Toilets at back of hall. (Note: no fuel in the Bunyas.)

Return SW, right turn towards Dalby./p>

Fast road. Good surface.

Bunya Mountains Rd

18 km

Turn right towards Bunya Mountains

Sweepers and some bouncy floodways. Up the mountain sweepers then scrapers, and speed limits (60kph and 40kph). This section is a challenging ride due to several steep hairpin corners. Leaf litter may be slippery.

Turn right to the Dandebah camping area.

Shortcut - Maclagan to Dandebah

Left to Bunya Mountain, continue north to Bunya Mountains Rd.

Two short gravel sections.


35 km

Café - takeaways, Bistro – extensive sit down menu (07 4668 3131), toilets. Wide range of accommodation from camp sites and cabins to chalets. National Parks Office.

Depart Dandebah. Turn right toward Kingaroy.

Leaf litter may be slippery.

Right onto Bunya Highway Route 49 to Kumbia.

Good road – fast run.


30 km

Kumbia village has a pub and a butcher who sells excellent bacon on weekdays (7:30 -4 pm).

Continue on Bunya Hwy. In Kingaroy turn right at the first roundabout into River Rd. Left at the next roundabout into Kingaroy St. Stop at the Peanut Van. (77 Kingaroy St).


Shortcut - Kumbia to Maidenwell

SE to Kumbia Brooklands Rd. 20km


28 km

At the Peanut Van,15 flavours of peanuts. Park and toilets opposite.

South on the D'Aguilar Highway.

Right to Godger St, south on the Kingaroy Cooyar Rd.  

Good road. Some sweepers

Turn left towards Cooyar You are still on the Kingaroy Cooyar Rd.

Turn right towards Cooyar.

Turn right towards Maidenwell.


43 km

Biker friendly pub and store at Maidenwell. Toilets. Coomba Falls worth a visit . Good swimming hole.

Continue south to Cooyar.

Pub, store, fuel, toilets. Camping (pub or showgrounds). The Swinging Bridge behind the pub a good place to see platypus.

Continue south to Crows Nest.

Crows Nest

65 km

Grand Old Crow Hotel- motorcycle friendly Pub. Meals daily 12 noon-2pm. 6pm-8pm. Accommodation. 

The Nest Café. Coffee, take away, meals, cake, fresh smoothies, all day breakfast menus.

Accommodation available at Caravan Park, Motel, Pub and nearby B & Bs.
